Highlighting Underrepresented Beauty
At 4cHairChick we strongly believe that representation matters.  Beauty for many decades has been defined by media outlets across the world as aligning to a European beauty aesthetic.  Fair skin, light eyes, long hair are all characteristics we’ve been told by society are prerequisites for beauty.  One of the effects of this propaganda is low self-esteem amongst the individuals who don’t fit the mold.  To counter mass media we use our outlet to left up, praise, celebrate and promote images of underrepresented beauty.

Type 4 Hair Care Education
Type 4 hair is super curly, super coily and super delicate.  It tangles very easily and has a reputation of being extremely hard to manage.  But what if we told you it doesn’t have to be hard to manage, you can grow long hair and you can style your curls and coils without dedicating full days to the task?  All ears huh? Disrupting Societies Definitions of Beauty
When opinions go unchecked for long periods they start being recognized as fact.  For that reason, our efforts to disrupt beauty definitions starts with disrupting conversations about beauty.  Our editorial team tackles challenging conversations, tells stories often not picked up by mainstream outlets and reports and calls out media outlets that misrepresent facts.  We believe in the power of words and we understand how important it is for our stories to be narrated and told through our lens. From an empathetic voice not a sympathetic voice.
