It’s cold weather season again, which means our hair needs extra hydration. In order to keep our kinks happy and healthy, we’ve got to incorporate an at home deep conditioning regimen, but sometimes it’s important to change things up.
That’s why this time around we decided that our deep conditioning routine needed a little remixing. So, we experimented with Shea Moisture’s Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System with Marula Oil and Biotin Hair Masque, and we’ve got to say, the process was different, but still pretty cool.
In true naturalista fashion, we threw out the instructions and did what worked best for us. We skipped the wet application and applied the product to dry hair instead because ain’t nobody got time for water to be dripping all down our shower caps and into our faces! Next, we applied our SheaMoisture deep conditioner to dry hair, finger detangled, which causes less breakage than a comb, and let the water moisture come from a steam treatment (in our case, we used a Hot Head, but a simple towel could work too). About 30 minutes later we were working with happy kinks, and a dry face. Our method was totally outside of the box, but it worked well!
Of course, we must warn you that a professional stylist may recommend wetting the hair with warm water. The warmth does lift up your cuticles and helps the product absorb easier, while rinsing with cold water seals the cuticles and locks the moisture in place. But again, it’s all about what works best for you.
