It’s your girl 4cHairChick here! My goal with this post is to share with you details about whether or not a CurlKit subscription is right for you. Use the headers to skip to parts that might be of more interest.
I’ve seen CurlKit and CurlBox everywhere! On Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Meet-ups – literally everywhere I go. After hearing the buzz, I’ve finally decided to research what exactly all the fuss is about. For sure, I know I’m late to this party. Most of you probably already know all about CurlKit and Curlbox, but this post is for all the newbies.
CurlKit and CurlBox are two separate companies. The two names are so similar that I was interchanging the names as if they were one brand. Thanks to Clutch Magazine’s article Curlbox Vs. CurlKit I’ve learned that CurlBox launched first, back in February 2012. CurlKit, on the other hand, began it’s operations shortly after Curlbox in March/April of 2012.
Does it matter who came first? Yes and No. Ultimately, I’m going to go with the brand who has the better product offering. Generally speaking, I tend to try the “original” brand first because personally I just feel like that is the right thing to do. In the case of CurlBox and CurlKit, the two brands launched so closely I feel like this is a situation where two people probably had the same idea around the same time. There aren’t any stark differences between CurlBox and CurlKit services, so it makes deciding which company to try first a little more complicated.
One Point for CurlBox:
Without looking into all the facts, I’ve been leaning towards trying out CurlBox first. Why? Because their subscription is sold out! This tells me that it’s good. But who knows, that could be a marketing ploy. Also, CurlBox has an AWESOME Instagram account. The pictures they post are always compelling. Nevertheless, as tempting as it is to just pick CurlBox to trial, I’m one of those people that likes to give due diligence to larger purchases and long commitments. Since these are both monthly subscription programs, I wanted to investigate CurlKit deeper before signing up for CurlBox.

What is CurlKit?
CurlKit is a monthly hair product subscription service that allows you to sample 6-9 products a month for $20/month.
Who is CurlKit for?
CurlKit is for naturals on a budget. If you are the type of person that hesitates to spend $30 on Miss Jessie’s, then CurlKit is for you. Or, if you are a product junkie and you are always eager to try new products in your hair- CurlKit is for you. In my opinion, CurlKit is a great solution for cost-conscious naturals and product junkies because you can try many different items for a reasonable price.
What kind of products do you get in CurlKit?
Good question. If you want to see a list of products that were in the CurlKit boxes from April 2012 – December 2012, you might have to do some digging. I checked the CurlKit website and wasn’t able to readily find a list. July and August are posted on their website, but information for the other months are missing. It would be nice if CurlKit posted a master list on their website because it could help prospects (like myself) to decide if they want to subscribe to the service or not. I scoured the internet and compiled this list for your convenience:
Knowing what products to expect is a big part of why I’d sign up for this service, so I hope being able to see the previous product offerings is helpful.
Helpful YouTube Videos about CurlKit:
I am a self-proclaimed YouTube junkie. I watch pages of YouTube videos every week and I love it. Call me crazy, but it’s my thing. I know most people don’t watch 50+ videos a week like I do. To help you save time here are two great videos about CurlKit I recommend you check out.
1. This video is a really concise review of the November CurlKit and it’s under 3 minutes long:
2. This CurlKit review is a little lengthier, but it’s very helpful. It’s unfiltered. You can tell she’s not trying to cover up any faults about the service. But she’s also not being overly critical of CurlKit. For me, it felt like an honest review (which can be hard to find sometimes).
If you have more details on CurlKit that would be helpful to future readers of this blog post please share what you know in the comments below. Any facts that will help those on the fence about purchasing the service would be helpful. Thanks in advance for being an active member of our natural hair community.
As always thank you so much for stopping by 4cHairChick.com
