What!? People are making videos about natural hair? And here I was trying to figure out how to care for my mini fro after this texturizer episode!?
Late one night (or more like early one morning) in February or March 2010, I was up getting my YouTube video fix. I’d only recently discovered natural hair videos on YouTube and it’s safe to say that I was hooked.
It was also around that time that I’d purchased my first set of Carol’s Daughter products. Naturally, I searched the “Tube” for reviews. I wanted to see what others were saying. What do I do with this leave in, and this butter!?
Remember this? 😉
That’s when it happened…..I found one of your videos. Needless to say, I spent the next few nights watching all of your uploads and thought, “wow, she has hair like mine and she’s wearing so many different styles.” I was definitely inspired.
So I know you may be wondering, “who is this person and why is she telling me all of this?”
You see Tanish (I can call you Tanish, right?), by sharing and documenting your natural hair escapades on YouTube, you really inspired me to get creative when it came to styling my hair.
When I first big chopped in August 2009, I was a little worried that I’d be limited in styling options. Obviously, from watching your videos, this wasn’t the case, and the fact that your hair was kinky like mine was icing on the cake.
In addition to styling inspiration, I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks about dealing with tightly coiled, kinky hair from you. From watching you grow out your color and deal with breakage to seeing your detangling/styling techniques change as you focused on length retention. It was all helpful.
The one thing I love most about my hair is the versatility, and I have you to thank for being one of the first persons (that I saw) to showcase the versatility of type 4 natural hair.
These are just a few of the many styles I’ve tried over the years. See what you started? 🙂
Just so you know, I also enjoyed your OOTD posts. I LOVE that you love bright colors and aren’t afraid to mix and match.
Girl, you’ve got style!
Thank you for sharing it with the world, and THANK YOU for being a kink-spiration 🙂
