I’ve been going to a lot of natural hair events lately and so there’s some what of a routine – vendors, hair education and mingle time. I think that was pretty much what I expected tonight, but I got a whole lot more.
First of all Nikki Mae and Mimi J really set the tone of the night with their beautiful sequence dresses. The way they came out face done, hair done and outfits on point I felt like clapping. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with the “standard” natural hair events, but for me it was refreshing to come to a natural hair event and have my socks blown off.
There wasn’t a red carpet at the entrance and I’m kind of glad there wasn’t because in my opinion that theme gets over done. Instead there was a camera stop right at the entrance for the VIPs of the night to stop and pose for pictures. Chanita Foster of The RockStar Brand was on her job! She and her team would round up bloggers and media whenever VIPs were arriving and she made sure that no matter what outlet we were representing everyone was treated equally.
I really appreciated that because sometimes bloggers aren’t given the same kind of love at events as traditional media publications. So I was really pleased that me and my lil’ ol’ camera were given carte blanche photo access.
The volunteer team that worked the event was down right awesome. I was lugging around my big camera bag and they let me hide it (at my own risk of course) behind the registration station. I thought that was super cool of them because if they hadn’t cut me some slack I would have had to carry the clunky bag around during the whole event.
Here are a couple pictures of the volunteers:
I love that these ladies had so much energy. Stank face when you arrive at an event can really kill the night. I hate when I buy tickets to an event, show up at the door and then the greeter of all people has the nerve to have an attitude. But that was FAR from the case tonight. I walked in got greeted right away, the ladies found my name on the list within seconds and before I could say “natural hair” I had my goodie bag and was done registering.
After I was done with registration I walked forward into the main gallery where the event was physically taking place. There we’re about 15 – 20 vendor tables so I made my rounds chatting up and snapping photos.
I was on cloud nine. There were a ton of people in attendance, but it didn’t feel too crowded. It was great to see men and women at a natural hair event so that had me sparked too. There was a DJ playing through the duration of the night so the whole evening transpired with it’s own soundtrack in motion. The sound system was on point so I wasn’t straining to hear plus the MC was fun and entertaining.
Meeting new people is fun to me and so I love how at natural hair events you kinda already have hair in common so it makes it easy to get into conversations with other naturals and at least for me personally I’ve found I usually make a friend or two whenever I go out.
The evening included a fashion show and a special performance by singer Adrian Marcel.
Mr. Marcel can sang. I was very impressed because some times at events the singer(s) can be so/so. It’s almost like their more of a time filler than pure entertainment. Not all the time, but some times – no shade just saying. Mr. Marcel on the other hand hit a home run I’m bout to download his music on iTunes.
I’m not the biggest fashionista I tend to be the one that hires a stylist, but I think the fashion show element of the event went really well. I really liked some of the pieces and I thought it was fun watching the models walk the run way. Talk about FACE! These models all would have made @Ashiek118 (she’s a vlogger) very proud.
And that was the night in a nutshell. Naturally Pretty definitely turned natural into glam tonight. I truly had a great time. To see the rest of the photos from the night check out www.Facebook.com/4cHairChick
